Melvin Ernest Heitner, age 84, of North Mankato, died Monday, June 5, 2006 at Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital, Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 8, 2006 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Mankato, with Rev. Paul Lauer officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be given to the donors choice.
Melvin was born August 22, 1921 to Ernest and Ida (Kopischke) Heitner in Good Thunder. He was united in marriage to Erna Rosin on June 3, 1945 in Vernon Center. Melvin farmed in Good Thunder, worked for Hubbard Milling on a research farm, farmed for Ben Edwards, and was a manager for Big Gain Turkey Farms. He was also the caretaker of Bass Lake Park in Winnebago. Melvin enjoyed reading, needle punching craft, and spending time with his family.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Erna; three children, Dean (Sylvia) Heitner of Mankato, Dale (Barb) Heitner of North Mankato, Gayle (Alan) Loeffler of Mankato; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Gary (Phyllis) Meyer of Cleveland; sister, Eleanor Zastrow of Good Thunder; and nieces and nephews.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Shirley.
