John J Kaufman

John Joseph Kaufman, age 75, of Mankato, died Thursday, June 1, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 5, 2006 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato with Rev. Ted Hottinger S.J. officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Sunday at Mankato Mortuary with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Memorials are preferred to ISJ Hospice.

John was born March 22, 1931 to George S. and Ann Marie (Schmitz) Kaufman in Mankato. He graduated from Loyola High school in 1949. John joined the U.S. Navy in 1949 and was honorably discharged in 1953 after serving in the Korean War. John was united in marriage to Delores Polchow on May 2, 1953 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato. John had been employed by Dotson Company for 20 years as a core maker. In 1974 he became an International Union Representative for the Glass Molder Pottery and Plastics Union, retiring February 1, 1995. John was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church and VFW Post 950. He enjoyed time with his family, gardening, fishing with his sons and grandsons and his true love cooking. John loved people, especially his social hour friends at Hooligans Neighborhood Bar.

John is loved, missed, and remembered by his wife, Delores of Mankato; three sons, Michael (Julie) Kaufman of Lakeville, Mark (Peggy) Kaufman and Chris (Cindy) Kaufman all of North Mankato; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Melanie, John, Sarah, Jason, Erin, Katie, and Jake; four siblings, Donald (Florence) Kaufman of Winona, Jane (Tom) Hilligan of Glencoe, Jeanne (Robert) Regis of Carpenteria, CA, and Mary Ann (Paul) Heitner of Spokane, WA; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Kaufman; and sister, Helen White.
