Verba Jane Meredith, 75, of Lake Crystal, passed away Tuesday, May 30, at her home after a lengthy illness.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Crystal, with Rev. Randal Lubbers, officiating. Burial will be in Jerusalem Cemetery, Judson Township, Blue Earth County. Visitation will be Friday, June 2, from 4-8 p.m. at Lake Crystal Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday.
Verba was born on September 25, 1930, in Chicago to Graham and Lois (Nicholson) Williams. She lived in Mason City and Carpenter, IA, and Hattiesburg, MS before moving to Lake Crystal in 1944. She graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1948. She married Clair Meredith on October 15, 1950. Verba was the head cook at Lake Crystal Public Schools and LCWM Schools from 1963 until 1999. She was also the caterer at the Lake Crystal Legion for many years. Verba enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Clair; three daughters, Mary Ellen Meredith of Apple Valley, Marsha (Richard) Jones of Cambria, and Marla Brown of Lake Crystal; four grandchildren, Ross (Lisa) Brown of St. Paul, Dylan Brown currently serving with the US Army in Iraq, Nathan Jones of Minneapolis, and Meredith Jones of Cambria; one great-granddaughter, Claire Brown; two sisters, Rosemary (Gary) Muhlenbruck of Thornton, IA and Shari Tisdale of Bay Minette, AL; two brothers, Charles (Marilyn) Williams of Madison, NE, Samuel (Regina) Williams of Hattiesburg, MS; sister-in-law, Janice (John) Fredericksen of Lake Crystal; brother-in-law, Ralph (Gayle) Meredith of Scottsdale, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents; baby daughter, Marlys; and a brother, Leslie.
