Lorna M. Matzke, age 68, of Garden City, died Sunday, May 28, 2006 at her home.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Wayne Eichstadt officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be given to an organization of the donors choice.
Lorna was born on August 21, 1937 in rural Good Thunder. She was the daughter of Ferdinand and Alma (Aderman) Harms. Lorna was a 1955 graduate of Good Thunder High School. She also graduated from Nursing School at St. Joseph Hospital. Lorna was united in marriage to Ronald Matzke on September 8, 1961 in Mankato. She was a nurse at Immanuel Hospital, and chose to become a homemaker for her family. Lorna later re-entered nursing at the Harry Meyering Center and retired on July 1, 2005. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato, where she participated in the Ladies Guild and choir. Lorna enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking, baking, raising animals, and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren, preparing treats for them, and making them laugh.
Lorna is survived by her husband, Ronald of rural Garden City; one daughter, Elizabeth (Tim) Klugherz of rural Nicollet; two sons, Paul (Christina) Matzke of Mankato and Joel (Lynn) Matzke of rural Good Thunder; she shared her joy of her grandchildren with everyone, cherishing Adam, Maggie, Brianna, Noah, Grant, Tennor, and was looking forward to meeting her newest grandchild due in July; two brothers, Roland (Norma) Harms of rural Good Thunder and Helmuth (Ruby) Harms of Centralia, IL; also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Violet and brother, Norman.
