Former Peoples State Bank President, William Charles Ries, age 80 of Madison Lake, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at his home
Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday at All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake with Rev. Robert Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 5 " 8 p.m., Thursday (TODAY) at All Saints Catholic Church with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before the service on Friday. Memorials are preferred to All Saints Catholic School. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ries was born October 23, 1925 in Albertville, MN to William J. and Nettie (Gaer) Ries. He attended and graduated from Mankato High School and Minnesota State Teachers College. On November 26, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marge T. Nuebel at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. They were together for 54 years, rarely seen apart.
After teaching band at Loyola High School, Bill took a part time job at Peoples State Bank in Madison Lake. He eventually became president and owner of the bank until retiring and selling the bank in 1985. W.C. was a proud Marine during World War II and again during the Korean conflict. His passion was as a musician playing music in several swing bands as well as numerous community bands in Mankato as well as in Arizona. He was a member of the Elks band and in 2003 was honored for over 50 years of playing in the Mankato Municipal Band.
Bill served on the finance committee for All Saints Church for over 40 years, was a 20 year member of the Madison Lake Volunteer Fire Department and was a Councilman for the City of Madison Lake. Bill was a member of Post 269 of the American Legion and was active in various leadership roles. As a member of the Minnesota Bankers Association he served in a variety of leadership roles. Other organizations he was involved with include the Minnesota Valley Regional Library, the Madison Lake Historical Society, Blue Earth County Historical Society and many other organizations too numerous to mention.
Family members include three sons, Charles (Carol) Ries of Madison Lake, John (Sue) Ries of Eagle Lake, and Michael (Kim) Ries of Minnetonka; four daughters, Peggy Ries of Tucson, AZ, Ann Terri (James) Dorn of Richmond, VA, Marion (Ken) Olson of Cave Creek, AZ, Patti (Randy) Munsen of Tucson, AZ; 16 grandchildren; Ryan Ries, Thalia Ty Ries, William John Ries, Kelly Thompson, Max Dorn, Johanna Hanna Dorn, Karl Dorn, Taylor Ries, Nicole Coley Ries, Lauren Olson, Kiel Olson, Cesar Munsen, Margarita Lulu Munsen, Nicolas Nick Munsen, Josephine Josie Ries, Alexandra Allie Ries; sister Carolyn (Lee) Reichelt; and many nieces, nephews, and friends in both Minnesota and Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marge; an infant son, Paul; and a grandson, Rafael Rafe Thompson.
