Bertha Byrd P. Paasch, age 98, of Mankato, MN and formerly of Joplin, MO and Clinton, IA, died Thursday, May 18, 2006 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato, MN.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006, at St. Mark Ev. Lutheran Church, Mankato, with Rev. Keith Siverly, officiating. Visitation will be from 1"2 p.m. at church on Saturday. A second service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2006 at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, IA, with Rev. Wayne Schneider, officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Clinton, Iowa. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements. Memorials may be given to St. Mark Lutheran Church, Mankato; the Lutheran Home Association; Bethesda Lutheran Home, Watertown, WI; ISJ Hospice, Mankato; or donors choice.

Byrd was born August 18, 1907 to William and Anna (Reiling) Schoening in Charlotte, Iowa. She graduated from Lyons High School, Lyons, IA in 1925 and attended DeKalb Teachers College, DeKalb, IL and Clinton Business College. She was united in marriage to Arnold Paasch on September 10, 1930, in Sterling, IL. Byrd had been employed as a proofreader for the Clinton Herald, a hostess for the Lafayette Hotel in Clinton, and provided day care for many families. Byrd was a member of St. Mark Lutheran, Mankato, former member of Faith Lutheran, Pittsburg, KS, St. Peters Lutheran, Savanna, IL, charter member of Our Saviour Lutheran, Clinton, Gethsemane Lutheran, Davenport, IA and St. Johns Lutheran, Clinton. Byrds greatest interest was in the Lords work; she also enjoyed bridge, scrabble, and crosswords.

Byrd is survived by her five children; Gene Paasch of Fairfax, VA, Emilie Keeton and husband, Terry, of Joplin, MO, Susan Becker and husband, William, of Scottsdale, AZ, Sarah Paasch of Bloomington, MN, Martha Klindworth and husband, Robert of North Mankato; fifteen grandchildren; twenty five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Byrd was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; daughter, Patricia; one brother; three sisters; one granddaughter.
