Joseph A. Doc Mollenkopf, D.V.M., age 61, passed away unexpectedly on March 23, 2006 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Hosanna Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Steve Kosberg, officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before services at church on Tuesday.
Joe was born April 21, 1944 to Norman and Ruth (Wastell) Mollenkopf in Anderson, Indiana. He attended Ingalls grade school and graduated from Pendleton High School in 1962. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1969. Joe practiced Vet Medicine in Wisconsin prior to joining Hubbard Milling Co. of Mankato in 1978 as a staff veterinarian in the feed department. He acquired ownership of Mankato Pet Hospital in 1995 and currently practiced there. Joe belonged to the American Veterinary Medical Association, Minnesota and Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Associations, Ducks Unlimited, Mankato Moose Lodge, Sons of the American Legion, Purdue University Alumni, and Bass Angler Sportsman Society. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR and gardening. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers Fan and John Deere toy collector.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Julie Larson and her husband, Steve of Eagan; son, Jamey Mollenkopf and fianc, Michelle Cline of Mankato; grandchildren, Michael and Emily Larson; father, Norman Mollenkopf of Pendleton, IN; soul mate, Nanci U. Meyers of Mankato; Nancis son, Bryon Meyers and his wife, Tanja and their son, Max of Brooklyn Center; brother, Roger Mollenkopf and his wife, Barbara; sister, Sherry Mollenkopf all of Pendleton, IN; two step-sisters, Beryl Rydberg of Spooner, WI, Kathleen Erickson and her husband, Duane of Effingham, IL; special nephew, Matthew Sheetz, nephews, Jason, Justin, and Garrett; aunt, Opal Lewis; friends, Tom and Cheryl Brockberg of Mankato; many cousins, extended family and friends including the Umhoefer family and dedicated Mankato Pet Hospital Staff.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth; step-mother, Evelyn; and niece, Jill.
Upon his death, Joe was an organ donor thru Life Source.
