Marjory Moravek, age 82 of Mankato, Minnesota State University Professor emeritus, died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Immanuel " St. Josephs Hospital after a brief illness.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. Pam Serdar and Rev. Dean Wolf officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Minnesota State University Foundation, Centenary United Methodist Church, ISJ Hospice, or the donors choice.
Dr. Moravek was born June 15, 1923 in Hemingford, NE to William and Margaret (Wiltsey) Moravek. She graduated from Hemingford High School in 1940. Marjory studied at Chadron State College and the University of Nebraska where she graduated with bachelor of science degree in Vocational Home Economics. She began her career teaching home economics in secondary schools in Minden, Cozad, Lyons, and Lincoln, NE. After earning a Master of Science degree from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, she joined the faculty at Mankato State University in 1957, teaching primarily home economics and Family Life Education. In 1970 she graduated from Oklahoma State University with her doctoral degree in Home Economics and Family Life Education. Dr. Moravek retired from teaching in 1986. Throughout her professional career, Dr. Moravek was active in the American and Minnesota Home Economics and Vocational associations and was a life member in both. She was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron and Omicron Nu, home economics honorary associations, and was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Mankato. She also was a former member and past president of the Mankato Business and Professional Women and past president of the Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Marjory will be sadly missed by her many friends, associates, and former students. She was in the truest sense, A loving, caring teacher
Survivors include special friends, Donna Strand, Judy Rohlfs, and Dawn Torkelson; one nephew; one great-niece; one great-nephew; and one cousin.
Marjory was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gerald.
