Lillian A. Roesler, age 101, of Mankato, died Wednesday morning, March 22, 2006 at Oaklawn Health Care Center.
A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Woodville Cemetery in Waseca. Memorials are preferred to Gideon International or Grace Baptist Missions.
Lillian Adelia was born September 24, 1904 near Minnesota Lake in Blue Earth County, Minnesota to Edward Martin and Hattie (Kohlhoff) Hubmer. She attended country school in Danville Township until she was 12 years old. She moved to Raymondville, Texas and attended two years of school there prior to returning to the Mankato area. She attended Amboy High School and at the age of 18, she enrolled in a nurses training course and later graduated in Minneapolis.
Lillian was a nurse supervisor at St. John's Hospital in Red Wing until 1936. She then moved to the Chicago area and attended North Western University Medical School majoring in Physical Therapy. She accepted a position with the Minneapolis Community Health Service doing home visitations and continued her studies in public health. She was a Certified Public Health Nurse in Minneapolis and volunteered and worked with Sister Kenny. She worked in the physical therapy department for 4 years at the Red Wing Clinic. For 15 years, she worked for the State Cripple Children's Services. Lillian continued her career through the age of 80, working at Hillcrest Health Care Center doing Physical Therapy.
In 1961, she was united in marriage to William Roesler. He later died in February 1978.
Lillian was a member of Grace Baptist Church and Gideon International. She belonged to the Nurses and Physical Therapists Associations and the Public Health Association. She enjoyed crocheting and floral gardening, especially roses.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Kenneth and Arlene Foels, Gordon and Lois Foels, Valera Born and Betty Kormann; many great-nieces and great-nephews and their families. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Alice and husband Arthur Babcock; three brothers, Leonard and wife Francis Hubmer, Kermit and wife Alice Hubmer, and Marlin and wife Ruth Hubmer.
