LoVera was born June 19, 1917, in Mankato to Ernest and Amanda (Mitzner) Schmidt. After graduating from Mankato High School in 1934, she established and operated a successful beauty shop in LeSueur. She married LeRoy F. Swenson, her husband of 54 years, on August 7, 1937; he died in December 1991. On July 16, 1994 she married Elden C. Paape who died in 1997.
A loving and devoted wife and mother who was guided by a deep and abiding faith, LoVera dedicated her life to her family and to managing an efficient household. This is what I enjoy doing, she would often say. Along with her ability as a fabulous cook, LoVera loved to grow flowers. Her conversations always showed a remarkable ability for remembering details of past experiences, names and events. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends and traveling to Florida for the winter months. For many years, she spent summer weekends with her family at their lake home on Lake Amelia near Glenwood.
One of LoVeras special talents was designing houses. This talent was particularly evident when she was actively involved with her husband, LeRoy, in designing of homes for Schmidt Concrete and Lumber, a company founded by her father, Ernest Schmidt.
She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Pete Meyer of Sarasota, FL, Sandi and John Frederick of Atlanta, GA, and Darla and Joe Langhorne of Oklahoma City, OK; one sister-in-law and her husband, Ferne and Harry Nelson of Slayton; five grandchildren, Kristin Woznicki, Peter and Anthony Meyer, Erin and Matthew Frederick; five great grandchildren, Amanda, Sarah, Samantha and Jake Woznicki, Annabel Meyer; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and one brother, Norman Schmidt.
