Beatrice Ann (Bongaarts) Kurkowski, age 73, of Mankato died on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2006 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with Rev. Karl Voelker, S.J. officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Monday.
Bea was born July 22, 1932 in Glencoe as twin daughter of Philip and Josephine (Gehlen) Bongaarts. She graduated from Kimball High School in 1950. Beatrice held an accounting position at RCPA in Elk River and Ed Phillip & Sons in Minneapolis. She married Robert Kurkowski in Kimball on July 23, 1956. Bea toured with her husband in Holiday on Ice as wardrobe assistant. They returned to Mankato, where she provided a happy and loving home for her husband and six children. She also worked for Bretts Department Store and after 16 years, retired as an Administrative Assistant in the Distribution Center.
In her retirement years, Beatrice worked at Target and was active in the Womens Guild and Catholic Aid at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and as a volunteer at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital.
Beatrice enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking, crocheting, reading, playing cards and traveling. She was a great cook and her family loved her chocolate chip cookies, banana bread and turkey dressing. She was very thoughtful and caring and her laughter and smile will be greatly missed.
Beatrice is survived by her husband, Robert Kurkowski of Mankato; four sons, Robert Jr. and wife, Denise (Elizabeth & Andrew) of New Hope, Jeff and wife, Mavis (JonPaul, Moriah, & Lauren) of rural Good Thunder, Mike and wife, Marianne (Eric & Alex) of Magnolia, TX, Ron and wife, Chris (Ryan, Brianna, & Justin) of Menasha, WI; two daughters, Ann and husband, Dan Nourie (Matt & Haley) of Mankato, Julie and husband, Mike Drummer (Jacob & Noah) of Mankato; four sisters, Phyllis Bruns, Bernice (Beas twin sister) and husband, Joe Masberg, Mary Jo and husband, Francis Logeais, Janice and husband, Jim Dircks; brother, John Bongaarts and wife, Donna; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents.
