Ray Ted Othoudt, age 87, of Vernon Center died Saturday, February 25, 2006 at Madelia Community Hospital.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church in Vernon Center with Rev. Wanda Kothlow, officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to services at church on Thursday. Memorials may be given to donors choice.
Ray was born on July 15, 1918, in Lake Crystal, Minnesota, to Albert and Grace (Mennenga) Othoudt. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. Ray married Betty Kienholz on March 24, 1946 in Iowa. He farmed until 1963 and was then employed with the Vernon Center school district as a custodian. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Vernon Center and the Amboy American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking.
Ray is survived by his wife, Betty Othoudt of Vernon Center; two sons, Michael Othoudt of Emery, South Dakota, Terry (Janet) Othoudt of Vernon Center; two daughters, Marsha Othoudt of Oakdale, Kathy Volkmann of Mankato; three grandchildren, James (Kelly) Othoudt, Nikki Sorgatz and special friend, Greg Gimmer, and Daniel Volkmann; brother, John (Gerri) Othoudt of Pine City; two sisters, Mae Morris of Vernon Center, Theora Axtell of Clinton, Mississippi; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Diane Muske, Marilyn Kurtz and Dena Othoudt.
