Frank W Phelps

Frank W. Mickey Phelps, age 86, WWII veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor, of North Mankato, died Thursday, February 16, 2006 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Monday, February 20, 2006 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Paul Meierding officiating. Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. on Sunday at Mankato Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial with military honors will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato. Memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Mickey was born on June 28, 1919 in Aberdeen, SD. He was the son of Arthur and Margaret (Larson) Phelps. Mickey was a 1937 graduate of Mankato High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for 12 years. A survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Mickey also completed tours of duty in the Pacific, European, and Caribbean Theatres. He was united in marriage to Frances L. Jones on February 3, 1948 in Seattle, WA. Following his military service, Mickey was employed with Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 24 years and also with Pinkerton Security for 12 years. He retired in 1981. Mickey was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato, the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, the Last Mans Club of WWII, American Legion Post 11, and was a former member of the 40 & 8 Club. He enjoyed golf, reading, walking, and history.

Mickey is survived by his wife, Frances of North Mankato; two sons, David (Patricia) Phelps of St. Louis Park and Daniel (Lyn) Phelps of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Nathan (Julie) Phelps of Green Bay, WI, and Jeffrey and Christopher Phelps, both of Minneapolis; also nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marion.
