Anita Ann (Lichtenberg) Smith
Anita Ann Smith, 37, of Hallandale, FL died Monday, November 28, 2005 in Florida.
Anita was born January 23, 1968 in Mankato to Gene Davis and Marion (Beinke) Lichtenberg. She was baptized and confirmed Lutheran and attended Wilson Campus, St. Mark Lutheran and Mankato West High School. She was a 4-H member since 8 years old, loved animals, horses, learning & working for Suzzette Johnson, Bill & Chris Solyntjes. Anitas love of animals led to a career as an assistant trainer in the Thoroughbred Racing Industry starting at Canterbury Downs. She was featured in Sports Illustrated magazine. Her twelve year cross country career brought her to Gulfstream Park in Hallandale where she met Brian Smith. They were married September 27, 1997. Anitas animal related work continued at the track as well as a veterinary technician at the Humane Society of Broward County and the Animal Hospital of Hallandale. Anita was a member of and served on the executive board of the Gulfstream American Legion Auxiliary.
Family and friends will miss her smile, free spirit and love seeds she gave away wherever she helped others and her animal friends. She loved her family, friends, dogs, Blue Bear, Cappy, Misfit, and Cherub, horse, Buck, the beach, a suntan, the racetrack, and her lab work. Anita will be dearly missed.
Anita is survived by her husband, Brian of Hallandale; mother, Marion Lichtenberg and stepmother, Mary Lichtenberg both of Mankato; sister, Gwynn (Andrew) Perry of Seattle, WA; brother, Robert Lichtenberg of Louisville, KY; uncle, Walter (Kay) Beinke of North Mankato; along with numerous relatives and many friends. Anita was preceded in death by her sister, Cynthia Jean, father, Gene Davis, grandparents, Hugh and Bessie Lichtenberg and Walter and Erma Beinke.
A memorial service was held Saturday, December 3 at 4:00 p.m. at the Gulfstream American Legion in Hallandale, FL. A graveside service and burial will be held in the spring at Glenwood Cemetery in Mankato, MN. Mankato Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.
Graveside memorial service 4 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2006 at Glenwood Cemetery in Mankato with Rev. Janice Hope Gorman of Faith Interfaith Center conducting the service. There will be a time to visit and share with the family at the Summit Center at 518 South Fifth Street following the graveside service.
