Mildred L Bloomquist

Mildred L. Bloomquist, age 93 of Lake Crystal died Thursday, December 8, 2005 at the Lake Crystal Health Care Center.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Lake Crystal with Chaplain Jim Dye and Rev. Harvey Hallada officiating. Burial will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

Mildred was born November 24, 1912 in Webster County, Iowa to Henry and Lottie (Hubbard) Borer. Mildred was a 1932 graduate of Burnside High School in Burnside, IA. On November 2, 1941, she was united in marriage to Donald Vincent Bloomquist at Lundgren United Brethren Church in Lundgren, IA. In the spring of 1948, they moved to a farm south of Lake Crystal, where they made their home and raised their family.

Mildred was a current member of the Garden City Baptist Church and a former member of Lincoln Baptist Church, where she had been a Sunday school treasurer and a secretary for the Ladies Aid. Mildred was a 4-H leader for many years and was involved with the Chat n Chew Extension Club. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, sewing and crafting. Mildreds true passion was that of her family and friends.

Survivors include her two daughters, Sandra K. Karels of Lake Crystal, Shirley A. Kalina and her husband, John of Lonsdale, MN; four grandchildren, Gary Karels and his wife, Kelly of Lake Crystal, Lori Karels of Phoenix, AZ, Julie Kalina and Jeffrey Kalina both of Lonsdale, MN; a step great granddaughter, Ivy Wymer; two sisters-in-law, Eva Bloomquist of Webster City, IA, Eleanor Halliday of Humboldt, IA; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband in September of 1996; son-in-law, Maurice Moe Karels in December 2001; and two brothers, William and Clifford.
