Marcella O. Thissen, age 91 of Mankato, died Monday, November 14, 2005 at Mankato House Health Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 17, 2005 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato, with Rev. Karl Voelker S.J. officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be held at Mankato Mortuary from 4"7 p.m., Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service. Visitation continues one hour before services at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be given to the donors choice.
Marcella Thissen was born July 30, 1914 to Conrad and Magdalena (Drummer) Haefner in Eagle Lake. She was united in marriage to George Thissen on May 5, 1936 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. Marcella was a homemaker for her family. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a past member of the Mankato Moose Lodge. Marcella enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, baking, music, dancing, and her ice cream. She also enjoyed entertaining family in her home, and her specialty was glorified rice. Marcella always had a room for anyone who needed a place to stay.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol Friedrichs of Mankato; two sons, David (Maureen) Thissen of Reno, NV, and Gary Thissen of rural Mankato; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; three sisters, Loretta Rose Bobbi Frederick of North Mankato, Lucille (Kenneth) Becker of San Andreas, CA, and Lorraine Sparky (Ralph) Sleeper of Peoria, AZ; also many nieces and nephews.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George on March 19, 1978; two sisters, Clara Hermer and Ann Winkler; three brothers, infant brother, Eugene, Lawrence Boots , and Roman; and special son-in-law, Jay Friedrichs on May 17, 2005.
