Mike died November 1, 2005 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2005 at Grace Baptist Church, 600 Lind Street in Mankato. Visitation will be 10:00-10:30 a.m. at the church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to the National Association for the Mentally Ill or to the Grace Baptist Church Tuition Fund. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Michael David Shaffer, 47, was born December 7, 1957 in Mankato. His parents are Irving and Marie (Nelson) Shaffer of Mankato. Mike attended Wilson Campus School in Mankato. Mike loved his family, going out for coffee and lunch, especially at Embers. He loved Second Step Club House. He was a friendly person and enjoyed music. Mike gave his life to Christ when he was eight years old, was baptized and attended Grace Baptist Church. Michael worked at Cedar Valley Services in Austin for 10 years and lived at Hecla House. He moved to Mankato in 2001 and worked briefly at MRCI. He volunteered at a thrift store in North Mankato. He has lived at Griffen Housing in Southview II. He thought of Barrie, the owner, and Karie, his social worker, as good friends. To Mike, a stranger was a friend he hadnt met yet.
He is survived by his parents of Mankato; sister, Sharon Bauman of St. Paul Park; brother, Larry Shaffer of Salem, OR. He was especially fond of his niece, Alisha Bauman of North Carolina; nephews, Daniel and David Shaffer of Oregon, and Ryan and Jesse Shaffer of St. Cloud. He was preceded in death by his brother, Randy.
