Barbara Mary Erkel age 65 of Finlayson, formerly of Mankato and New Ulm, died Sunday, October 30, 2005 at her home.
A memorial mass will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato with Rev. Richard Colletti officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Medo Central Cemetery. There will be time to visit with the family immediately following the church services. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to ARC or to the American Diabetes Association.
Barbara was born May 5, 1940 in St. Paul to James and Isabelle (Mans) Reasner. She graduated from Good Counsel Academy in 1958. On February 4, 1961, she was united in marriage to Donald F. Erkel in Mankato. They made their home in New Ulm, where Barbara was a homemaker for her family. In 1998, they moved to Big Pine Lake, near Finlayson. Barbara loved to read and spend time visiting with her family and friends. She enjoyed the winter season and living at the lake.
Survivors include her husband, Donald of Finlayson; three children, Kari Schubel of Andover, Aaron (Suzanne) Erkel of East Bethel, Thomas Erkel of Mora; three grandchildren, Tony Erkel, Alicia Schubel, Jessica Erkel; parents, James and Isabelle Reasner of Mankato; three siblings, Maryetta (Mike) McCarty of St. Peter, Charles (Diane) Reasner of Mankato, Jane (Harry) Hoffrogge of Keller, TX; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.
