John Harold Jack Rykhus, age 74, of Mankato, died Thursday, October 20, 2005 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 24, 2005 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato with Rev. Neal Wilkinson S.J. officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be from 4 " 8 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary with a 4 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour before services at church on Monday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be to the donors choice.
Jack was born April 2, 1931 in Waseca to Carl and Mary (Rohde) Rykhus. He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Waseca in 1949 and attended the University of St. Thomas. He served his country in the U.S Navy from 1951-1955. He married Deloris Drummer on October 17, 1953 at Barbers Point, Hawaii. Jack worked for the U.S. Post Office for 26 years retiring in 1989 and drove for Kato Cab for seven years. He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, VFW Post #950, Eagle Lake American Legion, an active member of the Boy Scouts Troop 24 and Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, and a Friend of Bill W for 27 years. He enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, hunting, fishing, camping, card playing, traveling to Hawaii, Camp Cuyuna, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
Jack is survived by his wife, Deloris; eleven children, Alan Rykhus of Eagle Lake, Karlene (Clem) Armendariz of St. Peter, Dawn (Richard) Yetter of Blaine, Kristine Rykhus of Mapleton, Kevin Rykhus of Eagle Lake, Brian (Sarah) Rykhus of Waseca, John Rykhus Jr. of Cadott, WI, Kerry Rykhus of Santa Cruz, CA, Karen (Brad) Willmott, Wayne (Lori) Rykhus, all of Mankato, Amy (Dave) Fossum of Duluth; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Byron of Waseca; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Lisa Rykhus and Carl Rykhus; one great-grandson, Dustin Hall.
