Claude A. Ziegler, age 98 of Mankato and formerly of Rapidan, died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapidan with Rev. Krista Strum officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Lutheran Cemetery in Rapidan. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m., Monday, January 10, 2011 at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Cemetery in Rapidan.

Claude was born February 11, 1912 to Herman and Minnie (Marble) Ziegler in Decoria Township, Blue Earth County. On December 12, 1936, he was united in marriage to Sophie O. Gilbertson in Mankato. Claude was a lifetime farmer and had also worked for Rapidan Township for six and a half years. He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church and a former member of the Rapidan Sportsmen Club. Claude enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

Claude is survived by his 4 daughters: Barbara (Ardie) Schweim of Janesville, Marlene Herbranson of Lakeville, Sandra (Richard) Daniels of North Branch, and Claudia (Royce) Sohre of rural Good Thunder; 3 sons: Gene (Vivian) Ziegler of Rapidan, Darrell (Dianne) Ziegler of rural Good Thunder and Dale (special friend, Cindy) Ziegler of rural Odin; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, John (Laverta) Ziegler of Bruno, MN; 1 sister, Deloris Schoenrock of Mapleton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Claude was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Sophie in 2007; 2 brothers; 6 sisters; 1 granddaughter, Lori O'Neil and 3 sons-in-law: Marvin Franz, Charles Burger, and Rev. Thomas Herbranson.
