Carole Ann Morphew, age 69, of Mankato, died unexpectedly after a short battle with cancer on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Pathstone Living in Mankato.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Monday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Echo Food Shelf, or BENCHS.

Carole was born December 17, 1941 to Edward and Vera (Blanshan) Swartout in Mankato. She attended Mankato High School. She was united in marriage to Gary W. Morphew on April 27, 1957 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa. Carole was employed for many years by the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center before retiring. She was a long time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she was very active. Her church was a great joy in her life. Carole was the Queen Mum of the Red Hat Ladies, former chairman of the Echo Food Shelf, and a member of a bowling club, "Chicks" Card Club, and many other groups. Carole loved spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends.

Carole is survived by her husband, Gary of Mankato; three daughters, Deb (Roger) Pipes of North Mankato, Terri (Kevin) Friesen of Grand Rapids, MN, Sharon Herzog of Minneapolis; five grandchildren, Gary (Amanda) Pipes of North Mankato, Hannah Friesen of Grand Rapids, MN, Natalie Friesen of Grand Rapids, MN, Eric Pipes of North Mankato, Emily Pipes of North Mankato; four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Blake, and Bailey Pipes; three sisters, Jan (Tom) Tonneson of North Mankato, Jeri Schmit of Ventura, IA, Pat (Stan) Petersen of North Mankato; brother, Jim (Cathy) Swartout of Lake Crystal; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents; nephew, Cody Schmit; and nieces, Sarah and Suzanne Swartout.
