Arthur Gordon Griffing, age 82, of Mankato died Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Mankato. Burial with military honors will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Thursday.
Arthur was born June 11, 1926 to Arthur C. and Elnora (Schroeder) Griffing in Pleasant Valley Township, Mower County, Minnesota. He attended Stewartville High School. Arthur served his country during World War II with the U.S. Navy. He was a Gunners Mate 3rd Class on the U.S.S. Brule in the Pacific Theatre. Arthur was united in marriage to Elvera L. Kalbow on September 24, 1949 in Winona. Arthur was employed by E.A. Carlstrom Construction Co. as a carpenter for 30 years retiring in 1980. He was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 11. He enjoyed watching sports, gardening, biking, and recycling aluminum cans.
Arthur is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Deanna and Glen Janovsky of St. Clair, Linda and Bill Kalis of Wells, Valory and Mike Waligoski of Waconia; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Gen Anderson of Austin; brother-in-law, Bruce Kalbow of North Mankato; nieces and nephews; close family friend, Dorothy Wolf of Mankato.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elvera, February 26, 2008; brother, Donald E. Griffing; sister, Bernadine M. Roberts.
