Loren Edward Ringheim, age 76 of Mankato, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 24, 2008 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Paul Lauer officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato. Visitation will be from 2 - 5 p.m., Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or BENCHES.
Loren was born to Louis and Ella (Schweppe) Ringheim in St. James, MN on March 7, 1932. He graduated from St. James High School in 1950. From 1950 to 1952 he served in Korea driving ammunition trucks for the United States Army. Loren was united in marriage to Marilyn Pope Waldron on November 30, 1953. He received an accounting degree from Mankato Commercial College and a B.S. and Master's degree in Elementary Education from Mankato State College in 1954, 1965 and 1967, respectively. He dedicated much of his life to working with children, teaching 10 years of Sunday School at Our Savior's Lutheran Church where he was a life long member and 32 years in elementary school education at Waterville, MN and St. Clair, MN Public schools. Loren worked as an accountant for Ziesmer Motors for a short time. Always an entrepreneur, he owned or operated various businesses over the years in the greater Mankato area including, the Rex Bar, the Waterville Ice Service, the Redwood Motel and the Hillside Terrace and LorMar Suites apartments. He worked summers at Kamp Del's in Waterville. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 950 and a member of the Moose Club. Loren loved traveling the U.S and the world, including trips to Canada, Australia, France, Dubrovnik, Yugoslavia, Mexico and even walked on the Great Wall of China. His favorite activities included fishing, watching the Vikings and Twins' games and spending time with friends, family and his faithful pet dogs over the years. Loren was grateful for his 76 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marvin in World War II and brother, Delbert at age 42.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54+ years, Marilyn Ringheim, his loving daughters, Debra (James) Holmseth, Nyla (Dr. David) Alderton, Reva (Sean) Baggott and son, Dr. Garth Ringheim, his ten grandchildren, Shane, Lafe, Cade and Tessa Holmseth, Austin and Conner Alderton, Averil and Hannah Ringheim and Devin and Logan Baggott; one sister-in-law, Jeneane Snyder and her husband, Howard and one brother-in-law, Del Pope and his wife, Phyllis and many nieces and nephews.
