James "Jim" Edward Wold, age 69, of Mankato, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at his home.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Arne Jessen officiating. Burial will be in Minneopa Cemetery, rural Mankato. Visitation will be one hour before service at church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Heart Association. Mankato Mortuary handled the arrangements.
Jim was born on September 19, 1939 in Mankato. He was the son of Edward and Bernice (Hessing) Wold. Jim was a 1957 graduate of Mankato High School and received a business degree from Mankato State College in 1965. He was a member of the MN National Guard for six years, reaching the rank of sergeant. Jim was a pilot with Northwest Airlines for 30 years and retired in 1998. He had an interest in aviation going back to when he was a young boy and would go flying with his father. Jim would ride his bike to the airport for his flying instructions and obtained his pilot's license at the age of 15. He enjoyed collecting and building airplane models, especially war planes from WWI to the present. He loved old movies, traveling, spending time talking with others who shared his interest in aviation.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kay of Savage; three daughters, Wendy (Todd) Harings of Eagan, Amy (Scott) Hebel of Prior Lake, and Molly Wold of St. Paul; six grandchildren, Gretchen, Grant, Charlie, Margaret, Chase, and Ross; two sisters, Carol Larson of Sun City, AZ and Susan (Steven) Christensen of Scottsdale, AZ; one brother, Robert (Shirley) Wold of Mankato; several nieces and nephews; and three aunts, Annette Poole, Dorothy Wold, and Marge Wold.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bernice Wold.
