David Francis Barke

David Francis Barke, 52, resident of rural Madison Lake passed away at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at his home after a short fight with cancer. Prior to his death he worked as a welder and laborer on bridge construction.

He enjoyed fishing in all seasons with his family and friends along with barbequing, reading, watching old cartoons like "Woody Woodpecker" and working in his shop. He was always there to lend a hand to help welding, building, or fixing anything. He was quick with his wit and made everyone laugh. They also knew he would stand by them in adversity and always be a trusted friend. He was number eight of eleven children.

He was also affectionately known by family and friends by several endearing nicknames like "Sween", "Swede", "Number Eight" and the "Dickens".

Son of Bernadine Barke of Mankato, David was born on June 5, 1956 in Mankato.
He was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Barke of Madison Lake and sister-in-law, Leisha "Biskit' Barke of Campbellsville, KY and an infant nephew.

Survivors include his mother; brothers Charles Barke (Edith) of Mapleton, LeRoy Barke (Elaine Brown) of Chippewa Falls, WI; Carl Barke of Mankato; Victor Barke (Kathy) of Mankato; Fred Barke (Gaila) of Morristown; John Barke of Campbellsville, KY; and sisters Janell Wolters (Gordon) of Mankato; Valerie Billue and Emlyn Rhodes (Kenneth) both from Windsor, CA; Joanne Hedberg of Lakeview and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Visitation with the family from 9-11 a.m. with a celebration of David's life beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8th, 2008 at Mankato Mortuary.

On Sunday, November 9th, 2008 family and friends are invited to his farm in Madison Lake for lunch starting at noon and to share memories of David's life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to VINE, ISJ Hospice program, or to an organization of the donor's choice. A special thank you to Vine and Hospice for the wonderful support and concern they have shown.

Loving son, brother and friend, he will be sadly missed.
