Lillian Rose Thompson, age 82 of Mankato, died Friday, December 17, 2010 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.
A Memorial Service will be held 1:00p.m. Monday, December 20, 2010 at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at Mankato Mortuary. Following the service, lunch will be held at the Morson-Ario VFW Post 9713 in Mankato.
Lillian was born September 1, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Edward and Anna (Webster) VerHey. She obtained her GED and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Mankato State University in 1976. Lillian was united in marriage to Raymond "Bud" Thompson on December 20, 1947 in Hollandale, MN. She worked for the State of Minnesota Department of Health as a social worker helping crippled children. Lillian also volunteered her time to the Blue Earth County Information and Referral Services and the Immanuel Saint Joseph Giftshop. Lillian was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and the Highway Wives Card Club. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, bluegrass music, Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, camping, animals, travel and Walt Disney World. Lillian especially enjoyed writing. She kept a daily journal for over forty years and published articles in the Free Press "Write On" section, but most of all, Lillian loved her family and spending time with them.
Lillian is survived by her husband, Raymond of Mankato; children, Susan Wickstrom of Mankato; Kathryn (Frank) Ferraro of Mankato; Pamela (Jon) Melander of Spicer; Amy Thompson of Mankato; Andrew (Cheryl) Thompson of Bloomington; Matthew (Denise Green) Thompson of Rosemount; grandchildren, Joel(Christy), Molly, Daniel, Rebecca (J.J.), Gina, Olivia, Shane, Clint, Luke; great grandchildren, Talia, Kayla, Taylor, Maya, Isabella; sister, Shirley Stanley; brother, Edwin (Nancy) VerHey and many nieces and nephews.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Anna; infant daughter, Janice; three brothers, Orlan "Tom"; Galen "Gus"; C.F. "Skin"; brother in law, Gordie and sister in law, Delores "Dode".
