E. Emma Hohenstein, age 96 of Mankato, died on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Pathstone Living in Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Vernon Center with Rev. Monte Meyer officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-7 at the Lake Crystal Mortuary and will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Vernon Center Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
E. Emma was born on February 14, 1914 in Milnor, N.D. to Herman and Lillie (Schwarz) Wilke. She graduated from Milnor High School. On November 28, 1935 E. Emma was united in marriage to Maynard Hohenstein on her parent's farm in N.D. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the LWML and taught Sunday school at the church. She was also a teacher's aide at the Vernon Center School. E. Emma enjoyed crocheting afghans, gardening, dancing, playing cards, and hosting her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Diane (John) Mosher of Lawrence, KS, Grace Werner of Outing, MN, David Sr. (Margaret) of Winona, and Roy (Becky) of Garden City; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, 11 siblings, and son-in-law, Dean Werner.
