Jim D. Greenough, age 84, of Lake Crystal, died peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 Monday, November 22, 2010 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Butternut with Rev. Gene Alms officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be at the Garden City Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Jim was born on April 16, 1926 to Chester and Mary (Stuve) Greenough in Vernon Center Township. He was baptized and confirmed on March 3, 1949. He attended school at Garden City Public School. Jim was united in marriage to LaVerne Matthes on December 11, 1948 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Gaylord, MN. They farmed in rural Garden City for 14 years and then purchased a farm in rural Lake Crystal in 1963 where they farmed until retirement. Jim was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Butternut. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and card playing. He competed in MN state plowing contests and was State Champion in 1962 and 1970. He held a private pilots license and enjoyed flying airplanes and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol.
Jim is survived by loving wife, LaVerne of Lake Crystal; sons, John (Kathi) Greenough of Lake Crystal and William (Hope) Greenough of Burnsville; five special grandchildren, Kristina (Jared) Sorenson of Mankato, Michael (Janelle) Greenough of Lake Crystal, Stacy (Dan) Maclean of New Hampton, NH, Matthew (Tammi) Greenough of Lake Crystal, and Jessica Greenough of New Hampton, NH; 11 special great-grandchildren, Robbie, Rachel, Reagan, and Rinnah Sorenson, Kaitlyn, Paige, and Alyssa Greenough, Tyler and Brady Maclean, and Carter and Carson Greenough.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jane Pape in 2005.
