Janyce Y. Struss, age 82, of Lake Washington, died Monday, October 18, 2010 at Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 9:00 " 11:00 a.m., Thursday at church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given Bethlehem Lutheran Church or AA.
Janyce was born April 26, 1928 to Roland and Johanna (Bill) Olsen in Minneapolis. Janyce graduated from Mankato High School in 1946. She married Gordon H. Struss on Nov. 5, 1949. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Janyce held jobs with the Mankato Free Press as a linotype operator, Layman Todd Realty as a Realtor, and Le Sueur County as a Home Health Aide.
Janyce loved celebrations with family and friends. One of her biggest joys was spending time with her grandchildren-attending their functions whenever possible.
Jan cherished times with Gordy, traveling the country, camping with family at Gull Lake, Two Harbors, Lake Superior, and Big Sandy. They also enjoyed dancing & fishing together and shared a life of nearly 61 years of joys and challenges. Jan's other hobbies included: bridge with dear friends, needlepoint, knitting, reading, swimming, playing the piano and shopping, (especially sales)!
Janyce and Gordy were the first recipients of the Jim Shaffer Service Award from MSU in 2002.
She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, great grandmother sister and sister-in-law. With a get-it"done attitude, she filled our hearts with hugs and our stomachs with delectable desserts, and always enjoying a good hearty laugh and joke. She will be missed.
Janyce is survived by her husband, Gordon of Lake Washington; two children, Gregg (Jayne) Struss of Baxter and Julie (Tim) Missal of Forest City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Mandi (Rob) Clouse, Anna, Tylor, and Emilee Struss, Lydia (Noah) Missal-Bray, Sam and David Missal; two great-grandchildren, Makayla and Samantha Clouse; sister, Lois Swanson; two brothers-in-law, Ken (Marie) Struss and Lyle Struss; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Janyce was preceded in death by her parents.
