Orlean Ruby Schmiesing, age 84, of North Mankato, died Sunday morning, August 21, 2005 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Nora Unitarian Universalist Church, rural Hanska with Rev. Donald Rollins officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday.
Orlean was born January 25, 1921 in Brown County to Carl and Mabel (Kolstad) Jukulen. She graduated from St. James High School. On November 22, 1942, she was united in marriage to Russel Schmiesing. Orlean was employed for many years with Nordaas American Homes in Minnesota Lake. She was an active member of Nora Unitarian Universalist Church in Hanska and the Sons of Norway. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her two daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and Bob Rossi of Park Rapids, Margaret and Lowell Hewitt of North Mankato; four grandchildren, Randa Rossi of Moorhead, Robin Rossi of North Mankato, Lee Hewitt of Fort Collins, CO, Lori Hewitt and her fianc, Jon Barbeau of Mankato; two sisters, Margaret Ives and Inez Jukulen both of Minneapolis; brother-in-law and his wife, Virgil and Arline Schmiesing; two sisters-in-law, Nina Schmiesing and Doris Schmiesing; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1995, and infant twin brothers.
