Barbara A. Peterson, age 73, of Vernon Center, died Thursday morning, August 18, 2005 at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Vernon Center with Rev. Thomas Lock officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.

Barbara was born August 1, 1932 in rural Vernon Center to Harry Leon and Clara Bertha (Pahl) McMonagle. She graduated in 1950 from Garden City High School. On January 28, 1951, she married Lee Edward Peterson at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Vernon Center. Barbara had been employed with the Vernon Center Phone Company, Peterson Motor Grader Service from 1960-1982 as a bookkeeper, Junction Inn Restaurant, and Baroda Auction Company. Barbara was an active member of St. Peters Lutheran Church and the ladies aid. She belonged to the Mothers Club and the Junction Inn Bowling League. Barbara enjoyed bowling, playing Bingo, gambling, knitting, sewing, and her grandchildren.

Survivors include eight children and their spouses, Linda (Stephen) Urban of Mankato, Doug (Karen) Peterson of Amboy, Bonnie (Mike) Kroenke of Mankato, Shelly (Kurt) Pariseau of Grand Rapids, Dennis (DeDe) Peterson of Vernon Center, Lorie (Jim) Friedrichs of Vernon Center, Robert (Lisa) Peterson of Amboy, Becky (Tom) Grausam of Baxter; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Cooper and LuElla (Lyle) Roberts all of Mankato; a brother, Gene (Helen) McMonagle of Madelia; two sisters-in-law, Betty (Peterson) Pahl of Vernon Center, Shirley Peterson of CO; brother-in-law, Vern Peterson of Amboy; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee in 1988; two brothers, Ralph and Jody; granddaughter, Penny; and other family members.
