Robert Bob Borneke, age 69, of Nicollet died after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, August 12, 2005 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2005 at Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. James Ahlquist and Rev. Karl Rydholm officiating. Private graveside service will be held at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2005 at Messiah Lutheran Church in North Mankato and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or to the donors choice. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.
Bob was born on January 25, 1936 to Clarence and Anna (Johnson) Borneke. He was raised on a farm in LeRay Township and attended rural District 77 and St. Clair Schools. He was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Eagle Lake on March 25, 1951. Bob actively served in the US Army from October 1955-October 1958. He married Joyce Johnson on November 17, 1956. They lived in Virginia, Arizona, Eagle Lake, Lamberton and Nicollet. He spent most of his life as an over the road truck driver with the last 15 years at J&R Schugel in New Ulm, retiring in 2003. Bob was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church where he had served as an usher.
Bob enjoyed his daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards, gardening, fishing, bird watching, and camping.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce of Nicollet; two daughters, Eva Borneke of Mankato, Leah (Aaron) Zimmerman of Mankato; six grandchildren, Mandy Zimmerman, Matt Zimmerman, Dan Zimmerman, Denise Zimmerman, Liz Jenkins, and Andrew Gaard; four great grandchildren, Jaden, Dallas, Casey, and Emma; sister, LaVerne (Kenneth) Freitag of Pemberton; sisters-in-law, Donna Borneke of Eagle Lake, Corinne Davey of Mankato, LaVonne Murray of San Diego, CA; several nieces, nephews and special friends, Harold and Ann Johnson of Mankato.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jim Borneke, and a brother-in-law, J.J. Johnson.
