Barbara Franklin, age 72, of Lake Crystal, died Saturday, August 6, 2005 at her home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Crystal with Rev. Randal Lubbers officiating. Burial will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery. Visitation 5-7 p.m. Monday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and one hour before the service at church on Tuesday.

Barbara was born February 3, 1933 in St. Croix Falls, WI to Frank and Jesse (Snow) Cowing. She graduated in 1952 from Fairmont High School. On August 7, 1955, she married Ernest Charles Bing Franklin at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. They made their home in Lake Crystal and were foster parents for many years.

Barbara worked as a dietician for the Lake Crystal Health Care Center, assisted with the senior dining at the Lake Crystal Towers and worked for several seasons at the Lake Crystal corn plant. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Barbara enjoyed vegetable and floral gardening, canning, collecting dolls, and most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her three sons, Kevin (Lori) of Lake Crystal, Kent of Lake Crystal, Keith (Somara) of Garden City; five grandchildren, Jeremy, Nathan, Summer, Dominic, and Dawson; four sisters, Ruth Scarce of Austin, TX, Eleanor (Wilbert) Wolf of Fairmont, Helen (Vernon Kenneth ) Hardt of Fairmont, Leona Reiter of Mankato; nieces, nephews and her faithful companion, Barny.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Kim and Steven; two brothers and two sisters.
