Joyce Rice

Joyce M. Rice, age 83 of Waseca, and formerly of the Granada area died Wednesday morning, August 3, 2005 at Immanuel St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 8, 2005 at the Garden City Christian Church, with Rev. Daniel A. Sanford officiating. Burial will be in the Garden City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Garden City Christian Church. Cards may be mailed to the Family of Joyce Rice, 8224 James Avenue S., Bloomington, MN, 55431. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Joyce was born August 29, 1921 in Lake Crystal, MN to Harvey and Emma (Foster) Jeppesen. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1939. She then attended Mankato Teachers College from 1939 to 1941. Joyce taught at the Garden City Grade School from 1945 to 1947. She was united in marriage to Dale M. Rice on October 20, 1946. Joyce later taught at Huntley Grade School from 1961 to 1984. She also assisted Dale with their farm in Martin Co. near Granada for 40 years. They retired in 1995 and moved to Waseca. She was a member of the Garden City Christian Church, until they moved to the Granada area. She was presently a member of the First Congregational Church in Waseca. Joyce enjoyed reading, gardening, and sewing.

She is survived by a son, Jonn Rice of Rapidan; two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Don Langseth of Bloomington, Bonnie and Michael Anthony of New Richland; three grandchildren, Kalisha, Orrie, and Bryanna Anthony; a sister, Viva Jean Bosshart and her husband, Harold of Aurora, CO; a brother, Quentin Jeppesen and his wife, Frances of Illinois; also nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale on October 1, 2004; a granddaughter, Renee Rice; a daughter-in-law, Ingrid Rice; two sisters, Bernice and Faith; one brother, Marlin.
