Sister M. Claverine Welter, School Sister of Notre Dame, age 91, died July 24, 2005, at Good Counsel Convent, Mankato, Minnesota.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Good Counsel Chapel, with Fr. Kenneth Pierre as celebrant. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Good Counsel, with Vespers in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. Visitation is also one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge.

Sister M. Claverine (Ursula Welter) was born in New Market, Minnesota, on February 13, 1914, to Peter and Josephine (Baltes) Welter. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Mankato in 1931 and took First Vows in 1935. She was a teacher for over 30 years in elementary schools in Minnesota and Iowa. In Mankato, she taught at SS. Peter & Paul School and St. Johns School. Over the years, she earned a B.S. in Education from Mount Mary College, Milwaukee. In addition to her years of teaching, she spent some years as sacristan at Assumption Church, St. Paul. She spent the last 30 years at Good Counsel, where she served as seamstress and in community service before retiring in 1980. She is survived by her sisters, Sister M. Nicolette, SSND, Good Counsel, Isabel Welter of Farmington, and Erma Yackley of Hopkinton, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Sister Mary Ursula, SSND, Sister M. Stella, SSND, and Rose DeGross, and by four brothers, Fred, Joseph, Clarence, and Lawrence.
