Betty Joy Siefkes, age 79 of Lake Crystal and formerly of Garden City, died Monday, October 20, 2008.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday at First Baptist Church in Garden City. Burial will be in Garden City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 " 7 p.m., Thursday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and one hour before the service on Friday at the church.
Betty Joy (Anacker) Siefkes was born April 25, 1929, to Herbert and Martha (Walters) Anacker at home on the family farm in Selma Township, Cottonwood County, MN. Betty worked for two years after graduating from Mountain Lake High School and then attended Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis, MN. She married Cecil Henry Siefkes on June 17, 1949, at Jeffers Baptist Church, Jeffers, MN. They lived in Kinbrae, MN, for a short time before moving to Oakland, MN, in 1951. Cecil and Betty moved to Garden City, MN, in May of 1961. Betty was a homemaker all of her married life. After Cecil passed away in January 1970, Betty worked at Gray's Grocery, Garden City, MN; One Hour Martinizing in Mankato; and Dianne's Dinette in Vernon Center. In 1978 Betty started working as a bookkeeper at Lake Crystal National Bank. She worked there until her retirement.
Betty is survived by her children: Diane (Perry) Howell of Prior Lake, MN; Steve (Valerie) of Flemington, NJ; Keith (Darla) of Mankato, MN; Phil (Connie) of Sleepy Eye, MN; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Mabel Regehr (Sleepy Eye, MN); Evelyn Lingbeek (Comfrey, MN); LuVerne (Dick) Siefkes (Darfur, MN); two brothers: Walter (Darlain) Anacker of Fairmont, MN and Kenneth (Janyce) Anacker of Mountain Lake, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 20 years, Cecil; a son Jeffrey; a granddaughter Rebecca Joy; one sister; and three brothers.
