Leonard Herman Ernest Schubbe, age 97, of Mapleton, died Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Immanuel " St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, October 19, 2008 at St. John Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Rev. Richard Salge officiating. Burial will in Union Cemetery in Mapleton. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Sunday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Leonard was born August 28, 1911 to Herman and Ida (Tesch) Schubbe in Medo Township, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Mapleton. He attended country school and was later a school board member. On October 28, 1939, Leonard married Marian Isabelle DeRemer in Iowa. They resided and farmed in the Mapleton area. Leonard loved farming and his horses, and was always helping out his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing in the Cobb River, dancing, playing cards, watching baseball, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Marian Schubbe; daughter, Beverly (Marlin) Sombke all of Good Thunder; son-in-law, Lynn (Myrna) Braun of Mankato; grandchildren, Christine (Kevin) FitzSimmons, Paul (Ellen) Sombke all of Good Thunder, Roberta Braun of Littleton, CO, Candi (Mike) Scott of Elysian, Cari (Vic) Prado of Englewood, CO, Mark Braun of Aurora, CO; great-grandchildren, Ashley FitzSimmons and fianc", Lou Olsen, of Seattle, WA, Jessica FitzSimmons of Fargo, ND, Megan FitzSimmons of Good Thunder, Joshua and Samuel Sombke of Good Thunder, Luke and Marc Sombke of Mapleton, Courtney and Chelsea Scott of Elysian, Benjamin Prado of Englewood, CO, Christopher Braun of Aurora, CO; extended family, Grace Schubbe of Mankato, Irmgard Schubbe of Mapleton, Florence Ellis of Pine Island, Laurence DeRemer of Mapleton, and Lucille (Vern) Oman of Mankato; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Marilyn Braun; grandson, John Sombke, granddaughter, Lori Sombke; eight siblings, Ernest, Herman Jr. "Mike", Elwin, Arnold "Pat", Wesley, Roland, Esther Proehl, and Sophia Lievan; four in-laws, Myrtle Sargent, Harry Sargent, Gordon Ellis, and Mavis DeRemer.
