Norbert Adolf Gag, age 90, of North Mankato, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Oaklawn Health Care Center, Mankato after a brief battle with, Amyloidosis, a rare blood cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 6, 2008 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., at Mankato Mortuary with a 2:00 p.m. prayers service. Visitation will continue one hour before service at church on Monday.
Norbert was born in New Ulm, MN on September 18, 1918 to Henry and Anna (Warta) Gag. He grew up on a farm near New Ulm and married Ruth Adeline Smith on January 18, 1944 in New Ulm. Norbert was a home contractor for most of his life. He played concertina with the Fezz Fritche Band and with the Six Fat Dutchmen. Upon semi-retiring, he and Ruth spent winters in Bradenton, Florida, until about 2002. He enjoyed old tyme music, playing cards, and spending time with his family.
Norbert is survived by his wife, Ruth of North Mankato; five children, Marvin (Myrna) Gag of North Mankato, Larry (Irene) Gag of North Mankato, Mary (Gerald) Doring of Mankato, Patty (Steven) Blair of Danvers, IL, Nancy (Steven) Braun of Mankato; five grandchildren, Daniel Gag of North Mankato, Kristen (Eric) Pedersen of Highland Ranch, CO, Suzanne (Jared) Ziemke of Cedar Falls, IA, Heidi Gag of St. Cloud, Craig (Amanda) Doring of Owatonna; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Olivia (John) Gag, Lila (Maynard) Larson, Delores (Howard) Smith, Beverly (Arnold) Smith; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Norbert was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; three sisters.
