Louis Walter Grzeskowiak, age 87, of Mankato and formerly of Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Monday, September 29, 2008 at his son's home in Mankato.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, October 6, 2008 at Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, MN. Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be one hour before the Memorial service at the Stennes Funeral Home on Monday. Mankato Mortuary assisted with arrangements.

Louis was born June 27, 1921 to Joseph and Julia (Wisneski) Grzeskowiak in Minto, North Dakota. He grew up on a farm near Minto, N.D. and graduated Minto H.S and from Electricians school in 1940. Louis served his country during World War II as a U.S. Army Sergeant in Company B, 327th Engineer Battalion. Following an honorable medical discharge from the Army, he then served as U.S. Navy Detached Services at Pearl Harbor as an Electricians Mate, 2nd Class. In 1948, he was united in marriage to Maxine Babinski. They lived in both Grand Forks and East Grand Forks where they raised a family of five children. They were later divorced. In 1972 he married Fern "Sweetie" (Elliot) Dunn. Louis was employed as a linesman at NSP (Xcel) for over 30 years before retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grand Forks and SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. He was an American Legion member for over 64 years, the Eagles of East Grand Forks and the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers.

Louis is survived by his five children; Peter Grzeskowiak of Warsaw, ND, Tom Grzeskowiak of East Grand Forks, Jon (Val) Grzeskowiak of Mankato, Susan Grzeskowiak of Coon Rapids, Mike (Loellen) Grzeskowiak of Savage; five grandchildren, Sarah, Jon II, Amanda, Luke, and Jacob; great-granddaughter, Airemie; sister, Annette Lipp of Colorado Springs; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fern, two sisters, Francis Kessler and Genevieve Wysocki; and two brothers, Urban and Severyn Grzeskowiak.
