Geralyn "Geri" McCarthy, age 58, died Sunday evening, September 14, 2008 at her Mankato home, surrounded by her family.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato with Rev. Tim Biren officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery Scotch Lake. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Geri was born April 28, 1950 to Jerome and Ann Dauk in Mankato, MN. She was a member of Cleveland Public School's class of 1968 and earned a Business Management degree from Rasmussen College. She married Michael McCarthy in 1971 and they later divorced in 1998. Together they had two children; Gregory, born in 1974 and Diane, born in 1977.
Geri was a homemaker for her family from 1974 until 1982. She worked for ADC in LeSueur in the human resource department until 1986, at which time she began working for Minnesota State University, Mankato. During her 21 years of employment at the University, she held various jobs with the latest being the Contracts Coordinator in the Office of the VP for Finance and Administration.
Geri enjoyed flower gardening, reading, crafting, bird watching, shopping, golfing and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters.
She is survived by her children, Gregory McCarthy and wife, Bridgett, of Madison Lake, Diane McCarthy and fianc", Chris Barnett of Brooklyn Park; two granddaughters, Mariah and Kyra McCarthy of Madison Lake; mother, Ann Dauk of Cleveland; siblings, Gary (Kathy) Dauk of Cleveland, Jane (Mark) Wolverton of Fairmont, Denise (James) Struck of Cleveland, Michelle (Michael) Bedford of Sherburn, Paul Dauk of Cleveland, Mary Sycks of LeCenter, Lisa (Russ) Anderson of Kasson; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and close friends.
Geri was preceded in death by her grandparents; her father, Jerome Dauk in 1980; and a nephew, Joseph Bedford in 2001.
