Edna L Cords

Edna L. Cords, age 96, of Mankato died Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Sterling House of Mankato.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 15, 2008 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, rural Mankato with Rev. David Danner officiating. Burial will be in Decoria Cemetery, rural Mankato. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m., Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Monday.

Edna Lillian Thrun was born on a farm in Decoria Township, Blue Earth County, September 7, 1912 to Fred and Auguste (Raether) Thrun. Edna was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church (Redeemer Lutheran) at Decoria Township and was a lifetime member. She attended Iron Bridge School District 131 in Decoria Township. She met her husband, Merlin G. Cords at a church function and they were married on August 16, 1933. Edna performed the duties of a typical farmer's wife; picking corn, raising chickens, and washing the cream separator. On June 28, 1936 their son, Delmar was born. Edna enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edna is survived by her son, Delmar (Marion Mason) Cords of Mankato; four grandchildren, Randall (Laurie Hawker) Cords of rural Mankato and their children, Angela Cords and special friend (Aaron Olson), Scott Cords and special friend (Gretchen Ingvoldstad); Steven Cords of rural Mankato and his son, Corey Cords; Brenda (Richard) Nelson of Hudson, Ohio and their children, Jered, Tanner, and Brandon Nelson; Bradley (Christine Edstrom) Cords of rural Mankato and their children, Rachel and Amy Jo Cords; sister, Alma Marzinske of Mankato; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Louise Cords of Mankato; five nieces, Sharon Bateman, Carol Hoel, Mary Peterson, Darlene Moses, Marcene Bromeling; nephew, Ronald Marzinske; and many cousins.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merlin on April 22, 1989 and a sister, Verna.
