Ruby Maria Sullens, age 90, of Mankato died Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital from injuries suffered in a bicycle accident.
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 8, 2008 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Mankato. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Monday.
Ruby was born July 15, 1918 to Julius and Anna (Johnson) Halverson in Cheyenne, North Dakota. She married Chester Dale Sullens on June 24, 1936 in Billings, Montana. They lived in Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota until moving to Minneapolis in 1956 and Mankato in 1963. Ruby worked as a cosmetologist at Donaldson's in the Twin Cities and at Brett's in Mankato. Since 1977 she has been employed with Sprague Enterprises working at Campus Coin Laundry, Norg Village Laundry, North Riverfront Laundry, Madison East Laundry, and Madison Avenue Laundry. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Ruby enjoyed sewing, quilting, Indian beading, gardening, and riding horses.
Ruby is survived by four children, Karen Wegner of Billings, MT, Judy Hobbs of Yakima, WA, Terry Sullens of Mankato, Debra Sullens and husband, Gary Dingler of Mankato; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; siblings, Myrtle Kounselman, Velva Reese, Mayo (Bert) Halverson, Eugene (Betty Jo) Halverson; sister-in-law, Ella Halverson; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester "Duke" in 1985; son-in-law, Kenny Wegner; siblings, Doris Martin, Francis Halverson, and Bud Halverson.
