Marjorie S. Tomlinson, age 91, of Mankato, died Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Mankato House Health Care Center.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 4, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church in Mankato, with Rev. Dawn Carder officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary, with a 7 p.m. Eastern Star Service. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church in Mankato, Union Congregational Church in Hackensack, or the Eastern Star of Mankato.

Marjorie was born January 27, 1917 in Huron, S.D. She was the daughter of Cecil and Clara (Andersen) Shepherd. Marjorie graduated as 1933 Class Salutorian of Huron High School. She was united in marriage to James L. Tomlinson on May 6, 1942 in Elkton, MD. From 1942 to 1955, they moved about the U.S. as James served in the U.S. Navy. They settled in Mankato in 1955. Marjorie was employed by School District 77 as secretary to the guidance director from 1957 to 1978. She and James moved to Web Lake near Hackensack and lived there for 18 years. Marjorie returned to Mankato in 1996 following James' death. She enjoyed travelling, reading, and socializing with friends.

Marjorie was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mankato, a former treasurer of Presbyterian Women, and Martha's Circle. She was an associate member of Union Congregational Church in Hackensack, MN. Over the years, Marjorie was the Past Matron of Cereal Chapter # 2 OES Mankato, member of Walker Chapter # 259 OES, Past Matron and Patrons Club of Mankato, member of MN Grand Representatives Assn., member of PAT's Snowflakes, MN OES. She was also a member of Zetetic Club, Summit Center and RSVP. Marjorie was a volunteer at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.

Marjorie is survived by two children, Sandra K. Clair of St. Michael; Dr. James (Linda) Tomlinson Jr. of Columbia, MO; brother, C.B. (Bea) Shepherd Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK; four grandchildren, Dr. Laurel Clair, Peter (Stacy) Clair, Heather Wagner, J.T. Tomlinson; two great grandchildren, Savannah Wagner and Colin Clair. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
