Harwood Blake Hott, age 92, of Mankato, MN, died Thursday, July 14, 2005 at the Mankato Lutheran Home. Funeral service and burial will be held 10:45 a.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements are with Mankato Mortuary. Memorials are preferred to First Christian Church, 1735 E. Main Street, Mankato.
Harwood was born on September 7, 1912 in Romney, West Virginia. He was the son of Truman and Minnie (Wolford) Hott. Harwood was a 1931 graduate of Braymer High School in Braymer, Missouri, and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Missouri - Columbia in 1936. He was united in marriage to Madeline Hill on July 3, 1937 in Lancaster, Missouri. Harwood served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946, attaining the rank of Captain, and also later in the Army Reserves, becoming a Lt. Colonel. He and Madeline lived in Missouri and Iowa before moving to Austin, Minnesota in 1948. They moved to Mankato, Minnesota in 1952. Harwood was employed with Doane Agricultural Service Inc. as a farm manager and field representative, and retired in 1984. He was a member of First Christian Church in Mankato, Rotary Club of Mankato, and the Toastmasters. Harwood enjoyed his time working and also reading farm magazines. He and Madeline spent winters in Sun City, Arizona from 1983 to 2002.
Harwood is survived by his wife, Madeline of Mankato, MN; one daughter, Kristin Hott and her husband, Andy Vitale of Eagan, MN; one son and his wife, Charles and Elizabeth Hott of Los Lunas, NM; two grandchildren, Carl Hott and Elizabeth Hott, both of Los Lunas, NM; one great grandson, Benjamin Hott; two nephews, Jon Mark Hott and Paul Hott.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Wilma and one brother, Maurice.
