Duane F. Elwood, age 71 of Mankato died Monday, July 4, 2005 at his home.

Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Mankato Mortuary, with Rev. Dan Wiese officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Greenhill Cemetery, St. Peter, MN. Visitation is one hour before the service on Thursday.

He was born June 21, 1934 in Mankato to Jess and Martha (Nelson) Elwood. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Cecile Frey and they later divorced. He was then united in marriage to Patricia Anderson and they later divorced. He was employed by the City of Mankato Parks and Forestry Dept. and later Carlstrom Construction. He was a professional softball umpire for many years and was known as the Dictator . He retired from umpiring in 2003. He was a member of the American Legion Post 11 and Morson"Ario VFW 9713. He enjoyed softball every summer, laughing and visiting with his many friends, and being involved in veterans issues.

He is survived by his son, Michael (Melodie) Elwood of Hudson, WI; a daughter, Brenda Elwood of Mankato; two grandchildren, Robert and Jordan; a brother, Robert (Linda) Elwood of St. Peter; one niece and two nephews; two ex-wives, Cecile Elwood of Belle Plaine and Patricia Elwood of Mankato.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
