Robert L. Freeberg, age 80, of Mankato, died Friday, July 1, 2005, at his home. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Al Girtz officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Minneopa Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Robert was born on November 7, 1924 to Carl and Ellen H. (Strom) Freeberg in Mankato. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1942. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. Robert was united in marriage to Rosemary Snyder on May 15, 1945 in Sleepy Eye. Robert worked for the city of Mankato in the water treatment plant and also, part-time for Farm & Gustafson Plumbing & Heating until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #11 of Mankato. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching Minnesota Twins baseball.
Robert is survived by his wife, Rosemary; two sons, Robert Freeberg and his wife, Susan, Bill Freeberg and his wife, Connie all of Mankato; two daughters, Barbara VanGuilder and her husband, Dennis of North Mankato, Roxy Johnson of Mankato; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; twin brother, Raymond Freeberg of Mankato; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gus, Vic, and Arvid; one sister, Elaine; and a great-grandson.
