Donna Marie (Marka) Goettl, age 75, of Mankato, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday evening, June 27, 2005.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Syl Brown and Rev. Francis Kunz officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Mankato Mortuary with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Donna was born September 28, 1929 in Good Thunder, Minnesota to Alice (Zumwalt) and Arthur Mountain. She attended and graduated from Loyola High School. On January 21, 1950, Donna was united in marriage to James L. Marka. They made their home in Mankato, where Donna was a homemaker for her family. James died on September 8, 1995 in Mankato. On December 27, 1997, she married Donald Goettl in Mankato.
Donna was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and had been involved with many committees, including the funeral lunch committee. She belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters St. Josephs Court 552 and Catholic Daughters. She volunteered as a Chaplain at ISJ Hospital, and was a member of the Red Hat Society, Extension, No-Enders Club, and First Friday Group. Donna was a talented seamstress, enjoyed baking, cooking, and spending time in Arizona during the winters. She was devoted to her family and loved spending time with them.
Survivors include her husband, Don Goettl of Mankato; three children, Cynthia Sue Reed and her husband, Paul of St. Cloud, MN, James G. Marka and his wife, Susan of Hutchinson; Paul D. Marka and his wife, DeEtta of Albert Lea; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Rodger Mountain and his wife, Marjorie of St. Paul; sister, Karlene Chapman of Mankato; two brothers-in-law, Lyle Gens of Eagle Lake, Eugene Seltenrich of LeCenter; and many nieces and nephews. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; two stillborns; and three sisters, Jean Henderson, Marian Seltenrich, and Virginia Gens.
