Daria Yezzi, 67, of Mankato died at her home on June 27, 2005, due to complications of leukemia.
The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Mankato Mortuary with visitation with the family two hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The American Cancer Society, The University of Minnesota Cancer Center, or ISJ-MHS Hospice.
Daria was born to Maria and Vittorio Petri in Pola, Italy (now Pula, Croatia) on August 30, 1937. She spent most of her childhood, including hard times during World War II, in Pola and in Gorizia, Italy.
In 1951, she emigrated with her parents and brother to the United States. The family first lived in New York City but moved, within a year, to Erie, PA."where she eventually met Ron Yezzi. They were married there in 1960.
After stays in Carbondale, Illinois and Knoxville, Tennessee, they moved to Mankato in 1969. In 1970, Daria joined six other women as original co-owners of Harpies Bazaar gift shop. Her association with Harpies was one of the grand adventures of her life, with many rich experiences and friendships. Her share of the business was bought out in 1993.
Darias family was her greatest love, a source for uplifting pride, and the subject of her constant attention. We will miss her dearly, even as we embrace with joy all she added to our lives. The course of events took away her life. But her spirit remains because of the many memories in all those living who cared about her.
She is survived by her husband, Ron; her daughter, Lisa Fechter and husband Sam, of Chaska, MN, her son, Tom Yezzi and wife Sue, of Chanhassen, MN; three grandchildren, David and Elizabeth Fechter, and Alyssa Yezzi; a brother, Mario Petri and wife Nora, of Fallston, MD; a brother-in-law, Larry Yezzi, of Erie, PA; two sisters-in-law, Elsa Yezzi, of Oakland, CA, and Dolores Yezzi, of Jamestown, NY; three nephews and four nieces, with their spouses and children.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, David Anthony Yezzi; her parents; her parents-in-law, Ferdinando and Clementina Yezzi; and two brothers-in-law, Emidio Yezzi and Robert Yezzi.
