Charles J. Kendall, age 89, of Vernon Center died Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital, Mankato.

Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Garden City Baptist Church, Garden City, with Rev. Harvey Hallada officiating. Burial with military honors in Vernon Center Cemetery, Vernon Center. Visitation 5-7 p.m. Friday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and one hour before services at church on Saturday. Memorials may be given to the Garden City Baptist Church or to an organization of the donors choice.

Charles was born October 5, 1915 in Vernon Center to Fred and Rosie (Dimmick) Kendall. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945 in the European Theatre. He was united in marriage to Alice L. Rambo on June 13, 1948 in Vernon Center. Charles farmed all of his life. He served on the Garden City Township Board for 22 years. He was a member of the Garden City Baptist Church, VFW Post 3842 of Madelia, and the DAV in Mankato. Charles enjoyed fishing, gardening, and visiting with family and friends.

He is survived by son, Wayne Kendall and his wife, Mary of rural Garden City; three grandchildren, Clinton, Derek and Adam Peterson and three grandchildren thru marriage, Jason, Ben and Lisa Burg; five great-grandchildren thru marriage; three brothers, Archie (Ruth) Kendall of rural Lake Crystal, Asa (LaMerle) Kendall of Kasson, Frank Kendall of Purwin, IL; a sister, Alice Hicks of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Audrey Kendall of Minneapolis; nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice in January of 2005; daughter, Charleen Peterson; one brother; and two sisters.
