Mary Alice Burns

Mary Alice Burns, age 93 of Prescott, AZ, and formerly of rural Amboy died Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at the Margaret T. Morris Center in Prescott, AZ

Funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Garden City Christian Church in Garden City with Rev. Daniel Sanford officiating. Burial in the Garden City Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the service at the church. Lake Crystal Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Mary was born February 28, 1912 in rural Amboy to Ray and Myrtle (Mills) Thompson. She graduated as valedictorian from Amboy High School and from Mankato Teachers College with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in rural schools prior to her marriage. She was united in marriage to Vern Anderson in 1936 in Garden City, they were later divorced. Mary Alice married William C. Burns in 1960 in Los Angeles, CA, William died in 1996. She was church librarian at the churches she attended during her lifetime. She wrote four books, made and sold quilts.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Jean Poore and husband Jim of Prescott, AZ, Bette Jane Golik and Ray Golik of Manhattan Beach, CA, Bonnie Joan Rose and her husband Tom, of Bend, OR; two grandsons, Mark LaMont of Bend, OR and Steven Golik and wife, Amber of Oakland, CA; great-grandson, Zachary Golik; nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was preceded by her husband, William; two brothers, Robert and David Thompson; and sister, Grace Kelley.
